When I created Simply Pure™ hydrating oil in 2012, I didn’t track my progress. That was a big oops.
I just didn’t know that something miraculous would happen.
Let’s Get Naked!
When I hosted my first “Let’s Get Naked” Challenge on Facebook in January, 2013, my fans encouraged me to “go naked” with them.
I had been using a soak off gel overlay for about 9 months and I was getting a little tired of the time it took to reapply—mostly because every time I removed my polish, it started to dissolve the gel.
But Your Nails Are Strong
Most people think I must have strong nails. This couldn’t be farther from the truth.
My nails are really thin!
Most of my life starting in college, I’ve used a hard gel overlay to give my nails the added strength they required to grow long.
My Greatest Mistake
After the birth of my 4th child, I was too tired to keep up with the gel maintenance.
I cut my nails short, let the hard gel grow out (because it’s very difficult to dissolve it with acetone), and stopped painting my nails. This was the biggest mistake I made as a mother.
Caring for my nails was my sanctuary—it gave me quiet time and it helped me feel prettier. And I gave it all up.
The Challenge
Since I wasn’t ready to go back to hard gel, when my fans asked me to “go naked”, I felt like it would be a great opportunity to go back to using Simply Pure™ hydrating oil as my only nail strengthener and document the growth process.
It Takes Two to Tango
Simply Pure™ hydrating oil AND weekly manicures allow my super thin nails to grow without breaking.
I rehydrate with Simply Pure™ by doing an overnight hydration treatment, then remove dirt and surface oil with rubbing alcohol before applying a new manicure using the Fab 5 Method.
The Fab 5 Method
- 2 base coat wraps
- 2 color coats
- 1 top coat wrap
1.) Pure Nail Oil™ gives my nails flexibility to bend when I whack them against something hard.
2.) The Fab 5 layers actually strengthen and protect my nails with 8 layers of polish—5 on top and 3 below. For more info about the polish wrapping, click here.

Hey Ana, I’m going to try your Tango method with Simply Smooth and Simply Quick. Could you explain the 5 on top and 3 below please?
Bonita, the Tango reference is the idea that I have long nails because of Pure™ AND great manicures. Pure™ gives my nails the flexibility and the Fab 5 Method gives me temporary strength….plus really pretty nails 😀
The Fab 5 Method is:
* 2 coats of base coat, wrapped all the way around the tips. This creates two layers on the top and underside of the tips. (This totals 4 coats around the tips)
* 2 coats of color, only on the top
* 1 coat of top coat, wrapped all the way around the tips. (This is an additional two coats around the tips)
So….. 4+2+2= 8 coats wrapped around the tips for temporary strength. I hope this makes better sense. ~Ana

Hi Ana – I would just like to know after the 3-day go naked should you always start the Fab 5 regardless of how much your nails have or have not improved?I would also like to know how often should Pure Oil should be applied every day when you are wearing polish, thanks so much for your time and advice!

Love your nails!!!! What would you recommend is the best products for the Fab 5?
My personal favorites are Bliss Kiss™ Simply Smooth ridge filling base coat and Simply Quick™ quick dry topcoat. They’re better than anything that I’ve tried before. Unfortunately, they’re only available to US customers. For people who are international, They just need to find a pink tinted, ridge filling base coat and quick dry topcoat that they like.
I just ordered some of your nail oil and can’t wait to try it. My love for nail polish started about 3 months ago and now with all the acetone use, my nails are peeling and feel “weak” …in the last week they keep breaking.
Hi Ana, I’m from South Africa, my only problem is I don’t think they sell Pure oil here. I have very weak, soft and brittle nails, I can just bump my nails lightly against a table or something and it would split into my skin. I hate having these nails. My hair is a different story, it’s strong and I can dye it every other day and it doesn’t break or fall out like your normal persons hair does. So there I’m Lucky.

How do you do the 3 day hydration without exposing your nails to water? You have to shower and wash your hands ect. I can see how using the oil before and after exposure to the water helps but with the 15-18 applications for 3 days it seems like after a shower or a trip to the pool you are starting over again. Thanks! Faith
Hi Faith!
Yes, you do need to wash your hands and take a shower. 🙂 If it is possible, we do recommend that you skip showers for the 3 day hydration. If this is not possible, we do have a lot of customers who wear gloves in the shower. You will need to apply oil and then the gloves, this helps a lot with keeping some water out.
